Poor response

To Dr. Brian J. Blake, superintendent of Hopkinton schools: As a medical professional, I feel obligated to inform you that the head lice clinic is a poor response to the problem. The prevention of head lice contamination in the community requires more than a voluntary clinic. It requires that all students be checked before admission into the schools, perhaps more than once.

Since there has been such a large public outcry, I'm surprised that you've taken a "Band-Aid" approach to the problem. Head lice are often harbored by the unsuspecting, and offering a voluntary screening during the last week of the summer will likely only "preach to the choir."
