Shaheen science talk silent on oil drilling I recently read coverage in your paper about Jeanne Shaheen's policy speech on the role of science in the 21st century. I also know that the average price of gas in New Hampshire is $4.05 a gallon while liberal "environmentalists" (and I include the former governor in that group) do all they can to prevent this country's engineering genius from extracting domestic oil that would lessen the burden on energy users in this state and beyond. Why do Jean Shaheen and her liberal friends and colleagues stand against proven scientific advances in oil exploration and extraction? With all of the advances in this field, we know where we can get all of the oil we need – right here; and we can access it cleanly, safely and without added unnecessary spending while the federal budget is out of control to begin with. I hear talk of science and demands to spend more of the taxpayer's money on unproven science, but I see no action on the part of Shaheen in support of proven science. Rather, her solution is more taxes on oil while blocking access to domestic resources so it is even more expensive for consumers. There's nothing scientific about that.
