This Week's "You"
July 29, 2007

My name is Barbara Barbour. I’m a retired teacher and a Korean War veteran. I march in parades with the Veterans for Peace. I am a person of peace.

The majority of the people in the world are persons of peace. We want peace for ourselves, peace for our families and peace for the environment.

At this point in time peace is the only option. It’s time for peace now. Yet our message is unheard because we are invisible. Let’s become visible!!

Let’s do a NH act of courage and independence and let’s all wear a 4 inch wide green armband on our upper arm, an armband of our own making, of an old piece of green clothing or new material. Tie the armband on. Pin it on. Velcro it on, but wear it everyday, everyplace till the Iraq war is over. Wear it to work, wear it to play. Wear it with a business suit or a bathing suit. Just wear it!!

And when people ask you: “Why the green armband”? Tell them: “I want peace in the world. I want it now. I want to be a visible sign of peace. I want the television cameras that come to NH to pan across the audience to show a sea of green. We want the world to know we want peace and we’re not afraid to show it. I want our state and our nation and the peoples of the world to have a symbol that shouts out… We want peace”.
